With UPSC declared the result, Kanishk Kataria CSE 2018, an IIT Bombay topped the exam this year. Graduated with B-Tech, Kanishk Kataria opted for mathematics as his optional subject in Civil Services Exam.
Kanish completed his schooling in 2010 from St. Paul’s Sr. Secondary School in Rajasthan, and then joined IIT Bombay to pursue his B-Tech Honors in Computer Science. He has been a topper during his college days as well (Seems like he is quite used to of winning the challenges, exams as well as hearts of people ;-).
Well, why we said hearts of people is because he is winning the hearts these days by giving the credits of his success to his family and girlfriend who has been stood by her throughout the preparation process.
UPSC was not a childhood dream of Kanishk, but travelling and exploring the world was surely one of his dreams. After completing his B-Tech, Kanish shifted to South Korea and worked in an electronic giant for one and a half year. Later, he returned to India and joined a US Startup in Bengaluru.
But, destiny’s plans were quite different for him. He could not find that internal satisfaction and felt something missing. Like he said, “I worked outside India and then for a multinational company, but I realized that I must contribute to the development of my country. I felt and realized that helping my country getting inclusive growth and infrastructure development will give me much more satisfaction than earning big amount outside India or in a multinational organization”.
Kanishk’s father, Sawar Mal Verma, is also an IAS officer and is currently posted as director in Social Justice and empowerment department in Rajasthan. His maternal grandfather, SL Bunkar, was in the state administrative service.
Seems like the boy who is inspiring thousands of youngsters of our country today has taken the inspiration from his father and grandfather, as he said “My father has always been my role model. He has always inspired me but he never pushed me into civil services. It was a decision which I made on my own. I consulted him and my family and they were fully supportive of this decision”.
Kanishk’s sister is doing MS in ENT at SMS Medical College, while his girlfriend who has been a great support for him is also a B-Tech graduate in Computer Science from IIT Bombay and is working as a product manager at Rakuten.
While speaking about his study plan, Kanishk Kataria revealed that he studied for 6 to 8 hours in a day, but as soon as the exam pressure increased, he increased the quality study time to 12 hours. During his preparation time, the dedicated young boy kept himself away from the clutches of social media and focused completely on studies. He joined Chanakya IAS Academy for the mock Interview Session which helped him succeed in the last leg of the examination.
He further also said that he is going to be a good administrator and will live up to the expectation of people with clear intentions.
Well, we are sure that our nation has got able administrators this year too, and we wish all the 759 candidates many congratulations and Good Luck for their future endeavours. And at the same time, we wish all the aspirants good luck to begin their preparation. Make sure you do your preparation under the right guidance.
